Decided to move this blog to a new location...

The time has come to move Sassythreadwork's blog to a new location.  It will now be at http://www.sassythreadworks.wordpress.com/.  I decided to do this because of easier access, ability to ping my Facebook and Twitter account each time I update my blog, and I also have a Wordpress app on my Blackberry, which makes life a bit easier.  So, please come check me out at the new location, as that is where you find out what shows I am doing, what new projects I am working on, and generally anything else interesting about Sassythreadworks!!  See you there.

My latest projects....

I have been busy getting dolls put together for upcoming shows.  One of the girls is going to be a tribute to "Pink" the singer.  I will have her on a carousel horse like on the cover of her Funhouse album.  The guy is going to be a bum I think, but not sure yet. Once I start dressing him then I will know what he wants to be.  These babies have a mind of their own...LOL.  Till next time.

My attempt at playing with Paverpol...

Okay, I wanted some wings that would be stiff enough to stay in one place, but still look natural. I was in a doll class a couple of years ago and a wonderful teacher Sherry Goshon showed us how to use Paverpol. Well, I bought a bottle for class, used it in class and have not used it since, until today. I thought it is made to be a fabric stiffener, dries clear, and should do what I want. From the pictures it is hard to tell, but I shaped the wings into a wrinkled pattern to give them depth after I had drowned them in a mixture of Paverol and water. I will get you pics later in the week to see how they turn out. I am working on my wall hangings and needed stiff wings to not only support the head, but give a good backing for the heads to hang on the wall with. So, we shall see. Till next time....

My newest soft sculpture idea...

I was trying to figure out what to make that would give a collector who is not much into dolls a reason to buy my work. My dad made the suggestion of trying to make a wall hanging that incorporated my doll heads. So, I decided to make large heads that will have fabric/wired/stiffened wings that would be able to hang on the wall like a sculpture. You would then have something you could hang like a painting, but was three dimensional. I have my heads done, but now need to design the wings. I think they are looking pretty cool. What you think? Till next time...

Okay, I am not lost or AWOL or missing on a remote island...

I have a way of forgetting I have a blog. I am working on new stuff though. I will get pictures up in a couple of days. I have a pile of purses that need sewn together. I also have dolls that need their pics taken and a new project I am working on that is more of a wall soft sculpture than a doll, which I think will work good for galleries and people who aren't sure what to do with the dolls. Come back and check out the new stuff, I promise there will be pics this week! Till next time... michelle lord

Freehand embroidery and me...having some fun...

I have been playing with freehand embroidery to make cool embellishments for my purses. I use water soluble backing to draw my stencil on then sew the design on netting or some other type of sheer fabric. Once I am done I then run water over the design and the backing just disappears. It is wonderful. I think water soluble backing is one of the best things out there. It gives you the stability to be able do the freehand embroidery without hooping. I can hand draw the designs and then go to town. I have two sewing machines setup on my table, one is setup for freehand embroidery and the other setup for straight sewing, so I don't have to worry about changing everything out when the mood hits me. I will be showing finished products in the near future. Till next time...

Hmmm, I have kind of been missing in action....

Hello all,

Well, I think I forgot I had a blog and that is why I haven't posted in sooooo long. I need to start putting on my daily to do list to start posting again. How is anyone suppose to know what is going on with me when I keep disappearing? Makes you wonder...LOL.
Well, I am looking at working on some mini-classes that pertain to dollmaking/embellishing. Any suggestions of what you would like instruction on? People keep asking when I am going to teach how I paint my doll faces, but to tell you the truth, I have no idea how I go from blank doll face to the finished product. I put an outline, then shade, then paint, then paint over it, then shade some more, then paint over it, then keep messing it with it until I just get out the white paint pen and fix the mess and make it look good. Now, tell me how to explain that one?
I have been working on purses in my spare time, which lately has been next to nil. My goal for 2010 is to get my work schedule under control and spend more quality time in the sewing room, but we will see how that goes. The joy of working from home with no set schedule, you end up working seven days a week and can't get anything else done.
Oh, today is my hubbie's 50th birthday, where did the time go? When we met I was 17 and he was 18 and we have been married 30 years. How time flies. Till next time....
